What is Predictive Scheduling?
In recent years States have been acting on their own to increase Minimum Wage. As part of the Minimum Wage Legislation that State are adopting, there are add-ons. One in particular being proposed in New York is “Predictive Scheduling.”
This law will require employers to pay employees in the event they are called off their shifts and/or to pay employees extra for an unexpected call-in. The particulars will effect everyone differently. There’s verbiage pertaining to our industry, but you’ll have to understand how it applies to your business. We urge the entire construction industry and it’s eco-system to educate themselves on this legislation. Here is the text of the proposed change.
On the NYS site there’s a list of frequently asked questions. Here’s a link to those, they answer some good questions. More importantly, contact your local officials to voice your opinion. Find them here!
Rest assured our association leadership is all over this, communicating with our state and federal partners, as well as allocating resources to fighting. We can help you navigate this or refer you to a professional for more expertise. Contact our Executive Officer, Lisa Churakos at email@example.com.
The Good News
We are ready! Our Board of Directors has been preparing the association for a strategic shift in our model that will help us represent all of the construction and building industry in Niagara. This shift will give us a bigger voice and better representation of the industry as a whole in Niagara.
The issues that impact contractors and builders also impact landscapers, plumbers, brick layers, home inspectors, realtors, and everyone else serving our home owners. We are rallying everyone impacted!
More good news!
We are armed! In 2019, our former President, Kristin Savard, will be appointed President of the NYS Builders Board of Directors. If any of you know her, she doesn’t stand down, and she comes with both gloves on! We will have someone speaking on our behalf from Niagara!
What You Can Do!
Get Involved! With Kristin at the helm in 2019 and the changes coming in 2018, it’s even more important to stay engaged with the association and help us make our voice louder. Share your opinions with us so we can better represent you. These laws not only affect our businesses today, they will impact an entire eco-system of professionals who provide services to our local homeowners.
We want to hear from our local LANDSCAPERS, CONTRACTORS, SUB-CONTRACTORS, BRICK LAYERS, ELECTRICIANS, REALTORS! Please reach out and share your thoughts on this and how it will impact you. firstname.lastname@example.org

What You Can’t Do!
Ignore it. Stay silent. Be apathetic.
